Iwata Revolution HP-CR Airbrush Review

First of all, I am not an airbrushing expert (not by a long chalk), but having been using a few airbrush for the past 30 years (I’m a Graphic Artist) and I know the good and the bad of this tool that it is indispensable for making great scale models and general hobby work.

The Iwata Revolution series HP-CR is an excellent gravity feed airbrush and a great airbrush for beginners who don’t want to spend a fortune (129$ CA at the present time). You get Iwata quality airbrush at a great price.

I purchase this model for working on medium detail and grand surface. I’m also using my old (20 year-old) and faithful Iwata HP-SB the more precisely details.

Even if the Revolution HP-CR is “marketed” for the beginner, don’t be fooled!

This is a superb all-general purpose airbrush for your hobby. After 6 months of use, I’ve come to realized that I only use this model since them…

The airbrush box is a sturdy rubberized plastic case with a protective foam form. This lovely airbrush is a real pleasure to use. Its versatility and user friendly and with a little care, particularly with the nozzle, it should prove to be a durable tool.

What I like about it:
  • Good for beginners.
  • Very easy to clean.
  • 0.5mm paint nozzle for general work.
  • The trigger has a smooth, positive action.
  • The Revolution CR comes standard with a bigger nozzle.
  • Features a large 9 ml paint cup.
  • Teflon Needle Packing.
  • Light and ergonomic Handle
What I don’t like about it:
  • Can’t change the cup size.
  • That it!
My faithful 24 year-old Iwata HP-SB !
